Another (dead) bin Laden video? What a surprise...
It's amazing that today marks the six-year anniversary of 9/11. Some people have even forgotten what year that took place, but even if that's the case, I highly doubt anyone has forgotten the incident itself.
Over the past six years, President George W. Bush and other members of his administration have attempted to take advantage of U.S. citizens' vulnerabilities because of the attack and in doing so, have played the "9/11" card numerous times as a scare tactic to remind us of that one day we will never forget.
Not long after the attacks, Bush claimed to know who the mastermind of the attacks was, Osama bin Laden. Even though bin Laden has never been "caught," we don't hear much from him anymore, and many believe the man to be dead, some how, some way, he makes his past "presence" known to the public. Even though no tape (video or audio) of his has been proven to be authentic in the past several years and others have simply been a montage of old clips (pre-9/11 and a few days to a couple weeks post 9/11), U.S. "analysts" seem to give credibility to any video that reads the name "bin Laden." The Fatty bin Laden tape was even deemed authentic by these same "analysts," which goes to show us that they must not analyze these tapes too thoroughly before labeling them as "credible" and/or "authentic."
That brings us to the latest bin Laden video, his first since just before the 2004 Presidential election. What's the story in regard to this one? Same old, same old. U.S. "analysts" claim that the video is "authentic", while others aren't believing that to be the case.
There are many splices in the video, bin Laden is wearing the same exact clothing in this one as he did in the 2004 video, and the stack of papers beside him look to be identical to the 2004 video, as well. Some like to point out his "new" black beard, claiming that he's attempting to go with a new look and to appear younger. Oh, what's this I'm hearing? Up next, hairstyle for men and levitra!
Yet again, this video appears to be fake. Anymore, Bin Laden is like an extreme version of the bird flu, used by the United States government to play on our emotions, frighten us into supporting them as leaders, and with that, giving up a bit more of our freedom in exchange for security (AKA federal power). I'm curious to see how this "new" video alters the approval landscape. It aided Bush and his Republican peers tremendously shortly after 9/11 and in the first couple years following the incident, but just like the color-coded terror alerts, it seems as if the bin Laden boogeyman has lost a bit of its/his emotionally-provoking power on the American people.
