More lovely quotes...

I went to a lounge last Thursday and like the week before, I overheard some rather asinine statements.

-One guy talked about North Omaha, how dangerous it is there, how he's the only white person when he goes there, and that he's always scared when he has to travel in that direction.

-The same guy later talked about women. He's married, as was another in the group. They talkeda bout how marriage is great, but that sometimes, instead of having the steak at home, he wants to go out and get a cheeseburger.

-He then made the statement that there's more talent in Lincoln alone (in regard to football) than in all of southern California.

-Another talked about shootings he'd heard about in the news of late. He went on to say that one said to him, "Well, what can you do to help this situation?" His thoughts? "It's not our problem. You don't ever hear about white people shooting each other. It's always blacks. You guys figure it out and fix it!"

-The same guy referred to everyone in Colorado as, "Stupid, faggot, hippies."

-Finally, all the guys nodded in agreement to women loving the jerk and hating the nice guy.

As to the first statement... I know some people who live in North Omaha (and most of which I know to be of a lighter skin tone) and they've never had any problems there. It's obvious this guy is allowing his prejudices and stereotypes get the best of him. If he'd actually allow himself to engage in conversation with people of different ethnicities, I'm sure that ignorant fear would lessen.

The second statement? What he's really trying to say is that the wife is great, but there are times when he craves another woman. Both married men were saying this. Another formerly married man agreed. Yet another guy, who isn't married, but is dating three gals simultaneously right now, agreed also. It's official. I feel sorry for the opposite sex. I would have thought/hoped some of these males would have grown up by now, especially after "fully" committing themselves to a person. But, that goes to show how naive I can be.

The third quote is just flat-out mentally handicapped. Southern California is home to more people than the entire state of Nebraska. With more people comes better odds at finding a four or five-star recruit. Los Angeles alone holds more people than the entire state of Nebraska, let alone Lincoln, which isn't even the heaviest populated city in the state.

In regard to the fourth quote, I'd love to see the statistics pertaining to that. What, every shooting in Omaha is perpetrated by an African-American? Uh-huh. Again, people just see and hear what they want to believe. If they see an African-American suspect on television, charged in a gun-related crime and they're prejudiced against African-Americans, then chances are, they're going to believe the man/woman to be guilty. This guy seems to have a similar problem, as he believes ALL shootings in Omaha are committed by African-Americans.

The fifth statement is lovely, as well. Now, granted, I have heard some stories from people who attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, of there being some hippies on campus, but to generalize an entire campus, University, city, and even state of being "stupid, faggot, hippies"? That's stupid in and of itself. The statement shows he has an issue with hippies and perhaps with homosexuals, as well. Ah, lovely. I heard such deep and intelligent conversation that evening.

The final statement flusters me, because I don't entirely agree with it and I don't want to believe it, but there's a part of me that believes a portion of it to be accurate, at least for some women. The part that flustered me the most was the fact that here I was, with four guys, two of which were married and cheating, another of which was dating three gals simultaneously, and another of which was formerly married and making similar disloyal claims as the others, yet, between them, they had how many wives and girlfriends?

Bar nights are nights for the wise, the tolerant, the attentive listener, the sensitive, the deep. They're nights where one can hear more racist jokes in a half hour than they had ever heard previously. They're nights where they can hear the same story from an individual for the 11th time. They're nights where one has to attempt to not use their noggin', because it's obvious that not many others are. Unfortunately, when one's brain is still functioning properly, the jokes, re-told stories, and ignorant "discussions", if one wants to even refer to them as such, can make for a hangover before one has even taken a sip.
