Guns Make Me Feel So Safe and Secure

So, I just read that Nebraska passed a bill the other day legalizing people to carry guns with them. This just makes me feel peachy, I tell you! Now, I admit, I'm kind of in the middle of the spectrum when it comes to gun rights. The second amendment is there, in case our government does what it does best, which is mess up, but mess up to the point where they attempt to transform America into a land so few of us want, so we can then revolutionize and take the land back. Okay, I understand that. So, we all have the right to own a gun for revolutionary purposes. Allright, I'm fine with that. People may use guns to hunt. Unless your name is Dick Cheney, I'm allright with that too.

But, if someone were to ask me, "Now, Craig, would you feel safer in knowing that whenever you walk out, you're surrounded by people with guns and they could up and shoot you at any moment or if none of them had guns at all." Oh my, decisions, decisions. I think I'd have to choose the latter as opposed to the former. Now, I understand in SOME circumstances where it'd be very beneficial to have a gun on you. If someone was being robbed, threatened, someone attempting to rape a person, yeah, having a gun could very well be beneficial. But, what if the person carrying the gun didn't truly know how to use it? Couldn't carrying the gun backfire (pun intended) on them?

The only way I feel okay with this new bill being passed is if a few things are guaranteed (how can they ever be?).

1) Through criminal background check on these individuals.
2) Given proper gun training, so they use the darn things properly when called upon.
3) Thorough medical background check, just to make sure they're not delusional and may pull their gun out on an invisible person who then turns out to be the ding ding man.
4) Take anger management courses, so they know how to cope with anger and problems, and don't just go for their gat (gotta work on my slang) anytime something gets heated.
5) Take hunting lessons from someone other than the before mentioned Dick Cheney.

If I'm guaranteed these five things and I'm probably forgetting about others, then I may feel allright with this passed bill. But, if I'm not guaranteed these things, then I'm going to be shaking anytime I leave the house, especially on the road during what is termed rush hour (why, I have no idea). Lots of ticked off folk during that "speedy" hour. Watch out during your holiday shopping spree too. There's only one more hot toy left and everyone is racing to get it? The last one standing wins after the shootout ends. Yeah, this bill definitely makes me feel safer. It's simple logic. More guns = less gun-related crimes, just like more cigarettes = less lung cancer and more booze = less alcohol-related accidents and crimes. It makes so much sense when you really sit down and think about it, or don't think at all. I think you'll have to go the latter route here if you try to make sense of that logic. I'm now going to go out, walk, and watch my back (not literally), because I don't want to get in anyone's way. Who knows what they might do!
