Trying To Provoke Jealousy
Gotta love people who do that, don't you? Say you broke up with a person and don't talk to them for a couple weeks, then they just up and call, not to talk, but to try to make you jealous. They'll go on and on about life is wonderful for them. They won't outright say that, "I'm so much happier without you," but they will say it in every way possible without actually saying IT and that's even worse. Yeah, rub it in a little harder there.
Why do they do this? To try and pour some salt into the wound? To try and be a S.O.B.? To hear themselves talk, so they can actually believe what they're saying more (which is a crock of B.S.)? It's wonderful to get these calls, isn't it?
I received a call like this last night. The funny thing is, she was never my girlfriend, but she had a thing for me and the feelings were not mutual. She decided we couldn't just be friends, so we just stopped talking for a while. She called last night (first time in a month) and went on and on about how great her life is right now. "Work is going great. My husband and I aren't fighting as much anymore. I'm going out more, meeting new people, making new friends. I just needed more stuff in my life, needed more people in my life and I think I have that now. I think I got what I wanted." I might've gotten ten words in, because she just wouldn't stop talking.
She was probably disappointed that I kind of shrugged my shoulders and everything she said. I ended the conversation (well, her tangent, not really a conversation) by just saying I had a lot of stuff to do (which I did), so I had to get going, but that it was really nice talking again and I hope she has a great rest of the week.
Just by telling a person over and over that you're happy isn't going to make it so. It's not going to make me jealous. It's not going to make me wish I had different feelings toward her. It simply means that she wants to believe it and wants me to believe it. Well, at most, she's one out of two, because I don't buy it.
