Marriage Amendment
Didn't Bush already try to do this and was denied? It's obvious what he's trying to do, because there's no way that it'll pass. He's attempting to sway his base and foundation of conservatives and Republicans back over to his side, hoping his approval rating will go up, and the chances of Republicans maintaining control of the House and Senate go up, as well with midterm elections approaching.
What's next on Bush's to do list? Keep on playing phony audio tapes from a dead man? Declare war on Iran, followed by Syria, and North Korea? Declare English as our national language? Define marriage? Claim that wiretapping is a "terrorist surveillance network/program?" Flip flop on his immigration position three times in a week? Flip flop on gay rights for the umpteenth time? Snort some lines? Get wasted? Buy some kegs for his daughters? Electrocute someone? Speak in tongues during a speech, claiming that the Lord is speaking through him? Say "hard work" 60 times in a hour-long speech?
Bush claims that we need to add an amendment that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, but that the states themselves should then take things from there. I know that Bush has referred to the Constitution as, "just a piece of paper," so he doesn't respect the thing much, but it's a sacred document that isn't to be tinkered with by the likes of loons such as W. This is just another weak attempt by the president to win support from his base and foundation, so that Republicans have a better chance of maintaining control of either (or both) the House or the Senate.
