Reggie Bush's Number
Tailback Reggie Bush wore #5 in college and wanted to do likewise in the pros, but the numbers one through nineteen are designated to quarterbacks and the league won't bend the rules for Reggie, so he's taking the #25.
I understand some rules in sports, like there only being a limited time that a pitching coach can speak to the pitcher on the mound. I understand there being a shot clock in basketball. I understand there being a play clock in football. But, what's the big deal about a jersey number? Dennis Rodman wore a number in the 90s in basketball. Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn did likewise in baseball. Who cares if Reggie Bush is #5 in football? Donovan McNabb can have that number, because he's a quarterback, but Bush can't, because he's a tailback? I'm sorry, but that seems silly to me. Let the guy be #5. They bent the rules for receivers in the past couple years. Randy Moss is #18. Keyshawn Johnson is #19. Roy Williams is #11. So, what's the big deal about Reggie being #5? I have an answer. It isn't. The NFL is a very respectable organization, but here, they're taking things just a bit too far.
