How Britain Terror Plot Benefits Bush

First off, why does it always seem to happen around this time? There was 9/11, then 7/7, and based off those, I had guessed that the next would happen on 8/9, but I was a day off. It occurred on 8/10. The number of casualties have decreased with each one. It went from 3,000 to 40-50 to 0. With each one, the government has attempted to increase their powers for reasons of "national security."

The story is brand new, so I've yet to hear or read any conspiracy theories related to the incident. But, there's yet to be a terrorist attack during the era of "the war on terror" where I haven't eventually heard or read of a conspiracy. There are plenty out regarding 9/11. For one reason or another, the British seem negligent on investigating the 7/7 attacks. The supposed terrorists in Florida were paid off by the government. So, I'm waiting to hear of any side stories to this one. When I read or hear any that seem logical enough, I will blog about it.

I do find it rather coincidental on the timing of the attacks. In the latest USA Today/Gallup Poll, just released on Tuesday, Bush's approval rating was at its lowest during his presidency (31%) and his disapproval rating was at its highest (65%). The anti-war movement got a boost by Democratic war supporter Joe Lieberman being defeated by anti-war Democrat Ned Lamont in the Connecticut primaries. In recent polls, approximately 60-65% of Americans have claimed that they want out of Iraq or that the Iraq War was a mistake. Several studies have come out, mainly deriving from the U.K., that the U.S. is losing "the war on terror." The 9/11 truth movement has been making strides, by having a conference aired on C-SPAN recently and with more and more people speaking out about their questioning the official story.

It's the perfect derivation and distraction for Bush. It puts a temporary scare into the American citizens' minds, ups Bush's approval rating, gives him more reason to preach to the American people that the "war on terror" is an ongoing battle and we need to stay in Iraq, perhaps puts a dent in the fender of the anti-war movement, and slows down the 9/11 truth movement. Oh, and it also gives Bush and his administration more leeway on bills they have passed or are thinking of passing and the increase of power which they will take on.

I find it rather funny (not ha ha) that we're going crazy over this attempted attack. The fact of the matter is, nobody was harmed or killed. In other words, the attack failed. They were caught. Whether it's a conspiracy or not, nobody was killed and that's the most important fact. Yet, Bush and company are claiming that it's a sign we're still in the war on terror and we must stay in Iraq. How does this have anything to do with the war in Iraq? If anything, perhaps they want us out of Iraq, so this was their attempt in getting us to finally send our troops back home. That's just mere ignorant speculation. I have no idea what the motivation was. But, mere speculation is what's being talked about all over by political analysts. They claim that IF the attacks had been followed through, it would've been something like we had never seen before. Again, that key word is IF. It didn't get carried out. It wasn't successful. They've been caught and arrested. There's no need to speculate on what COULD have happened. It didn't happen.

Bush and company have now praised the controversial PATRIOT Act and some have gone as far to say that we should adopt the British's MI5, which is like the PATRIOT Act times about five and would all but do away with our First Amendment. People are saying this over a terrorist act that failed. What's this about not being able to carry on lotions, creams, shampoos, and beverages? What's next? Wait, wait, don't tell me. I don't want to know. I hate to break it to people, but the only 100% safe way to fly would be to strap everyone up and now allow them to move any part of their body or speak while on the plane and this includes the pilots. The only problem with that, of course, is the fact we wouldn't be able to fly anywhere. These incidents are slowly taking citizens rights and freedoms away. It's expanding the government's powers and depleting our freedoms. Because of this incident, will people feel the need to give some liberty for security? That's hard to say at this point in time, but I hope we learned a few things after what we gave up following 9/11. We're still battling what was taken from us following that day. There's no need to regress back to where we were, especially after a failed attack. If I'm not going to give up my house and land after a storm strikes it one evening, I'm certainly not going to give it up after a storm looms in the area, but misses.
