"Racism" Junk E-Mail
Oh boy, yeah, I just received another e-mail from my uncle. This one is entitled "Racism." Following the pathetic e-mail, I will be making some commentary.
Here you are:
"Interesting:
You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me "Whiteboy," "Cracker," "Honkey," "Whitey," "Caveman" and that's OK. But when I call you, nigger, Kike, Towelhead, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink you call me a racist.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET(White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists.
If we had White History month, we'd be racists
If we had an organization for only whites to "advance" our lives, we'd be racists.
If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US, yet if there were "White colleges" that would be a racist college.
In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.
I am proud. But, you call me a racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists?
There is nothing improper about this email. Let's see which of you are proud enough to forward it."
Yeah, sad, isn't it? I do not understand how some Caucasians believe that they (we) are the minority. Even though we make up 75-80% of the population in this country, we're still the minority. Even though English is the dominant and national language, we're the minority. Even though there are only a couple of African-American professional football coaches, Caucasians are still the minority. Give me a break!
There's nothing wrong with being proud of who you are, but why make it about one's skin color? I'm proud of who I am, but that has nothing to do with me boasting about being white. I don't care about that. I was born white, so what? The majority of this country was also born white. In other words, we're the majority and have not had to fight as hard as the minorities of this country. Remember when women couldn't vote? Remember when blacks were slaves? If the tables were turned and the whites had been slaves, we'd have the NAACP (Anglo-American), the WET, and Pride Marches. But, guess what for those who believe it never happened? We weren't the slaves. The African-Americans were the ones who were enslaved. We were the masters with all the rights and they had little to none. I know some people like to dismiss the fact that racism is still prevalent in today's society. Some like to believe, "Well, we ended the slavery a long time ago. They should have made more progress than they have. I'm done with giving them the race card excuse." While the salary gap has closed some through the years and there have been more prominent African-American leaders, there is still a rather wide gap and many of the rights many of us Anglo-Americans may take for granted on a day-to-day basis, some African-Americans can do no such thing.
80% of the country is white, so what need is there to have a White History Month or a WET (White Entertainment Television) or a Pride Parade? Take a history class. Unless that class deals with African-American Theology, like a class I took in college, then most likely, the majority of people (like the population) will be Caucasian. Watch television sometime. "Cheers," "Seinfeld," "Friends," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "The Family Guy," "The Simpsons," "Married With Children," "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," "The Colbert Report," "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," "The Late Show With David Letterman," "The Price Is Right," "Wheel of Fortune," "Jeopardy," "Family Feud," "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson," "The Late Late Show With Conan O'Brien," amongst many many other shows. Think about those shows for a minute. Honestly, what percentage of the actors and hosts are white as opposed to black? Be honest now. What's the ratio? Yeah, the Caucasians have a slight edge in the quantity of actors and hosts on those and I say slight with the utmost sarcasm possible.
Blacks and other minorities have been climbing uphill ever since slavery ended. They've battled discrimination, stereotypes, and racism throughout American history. Whites have not had this same problem. It's been smooth sailing for us. Martin Luther King was one of the leaders of the black movement to sure that African-Americans have equal rights as Anglo-Americans. Again, if the tables had been flipped and whites were the ones who were enslaved, we'd be celebrating the man or woman who helped us attain equal rights. Until African-Americans are truly given equal opportunity and are not of a minority status, they will need protection from discriminatory words and actions. I know this is difficult for some Caucasians to understand, but it's the truth and you're going to have to deal with it. Whoever thinks that Whites got the short end of the stick, are a minority, and are not receiving equal rights or opportunity need to open their eyes some, because they're obviously blind to what occurs in the real world, in the now and throughout history.
