Lies in Washington

I just read an article yesterday about representative John Murtha being accused of libel by a marine in Iraq.

The lawsuit accuses Murtha of spreading lies about one Frank D. Wuterich and his squad. The marine said that Murtha's comments "intended to serve his own private purpose and interests."

Wuterich's attorney, Mark S. Zaid said this about the case, "This case is not about money; it's about clearing Frank Wuterich's name, and part of that is to identify where these leaks are coming from. Congressman Murtha has created this atmosphere that has already concluded guilt. He's created this environment that really smells, and he's the only one who has done that."

The only reason I post this article is that I find it oddly funny (not ha ha) that Wuterich claims Murtha made the commentary for his own benefits and Zaid, Wuterich's lawyer, states that Murtha has created a very smelly environment and he's the ONLY one whose done that. Oh really? So, a certain president and his administration did not go to war for their own benefits? They didn't lie to us countless times for their own benefits? They didn't create a "smelly" environment where we've been at war for three years now, where almost 2,600 U.S. soldiers have died, another 8,000 wounded, and at least 35,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed? Not to mention all the money we've put into the war, so much so that we now face the largest deficit in our history. We've become one of the most hated and feared countries in the world. Yeah, Zaid, you're absolutely right, Murtha definitely is the ONLY one creating a stinky environment.
