McCain Who?
Arizona Senator and Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain was in New Hampshire over the weekend and when speaking about MoveOn.org and their recent ad regarding General Petraeus, McCain exclaimed, "It's disgraceful, it's got to be retracted and condemned by the Democrats and MoveOn.org ought to be thrown out of this country."
Earlier today, the McCain campaign issued a statement regarding the Senator's recent comments, which read, "Senator McCain, like most Americans, is appalled by the MoveOn.org ad. Last night he expressed his outrage in words that did not convey his intended meaning. What he meant to say was that MoveOn's smear of General Petraeus' character should have no place in the American political debate."
A year ago, I would've said that I might vote for the Arizona Senator if he were to run for president. But, his flip-floppityness (a new word in my book...), contradictory words, and odd antics have made me change my mind. Regretfully, in just a year, I've gone from pondering a vote for the Senator in the hypothetical scenario that he run for president to knowing that I won't vote for him even in knowing that he is running for the head office. Regardless of the statement his campaign said, attempting to clear McCain's words with the public, I have a hard time believing them. It's quite a drastic change in content when one exclaims that a group of people and their beliefs should get out of the country as opposed to stating that no political debate should include such a "smear" of character. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to buy that, even if it's discounted at 70% off the retail price. Whether or not I agree with one's beliefs or words, I don't believe in exporting people because of those beliefs and/or words. Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Ann Coulter, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, do I agree with much of what they have to say? No, not at all. But, because of that fact, do I believe they shouldn't live here? No, of course not. They deserve as equal of rights as anybody else. Regardless of how radical some ideas or beliefs may be, people should still be allowed to believe in such things in this country, known as the "land of the free, home of the brave."
