Vince Young Comments on Vick

Tennessee Titans' starting quarterback, Vince Young, just recently made his thoughts and feelings toward Michael Vick known to the public.

Young had this to say, "I know Mike. My first year here we played them in a preseason game and we've stayed in contact. I still have him in my prayers and hope that everything falls into place when he does his time or whatever."

"I hope he does get a chance to come back (to the NFL) but, if not, he can always call me just like I can always call him. I know what kind of guy he is and he's a good person."

"He's one of those guys where you're like, 'Man, how did he do that?' He brings a lot to the table. A lot of people tried to bill that up, to us being the same quarterback and things like that. But I did feel like I was more - not more of a runner - but more of a (guy learning the game and getting the ball downfield with my teammates."

I've not met either person, so I can't come forward and comment about that, but do have to say Young had some guts to come forward and say such complimentary things about Vick. I imagine he'll receive mixed reactions, both locally and nationally, to those comments and I'm sure he had to know that going into the interview.

I haven't agreed with everything Young's had to say in his brief NFL career, but have to admit that the guy isn't bashful in front of the camera and isn't fearful of not saying the politically correct things. Just recently, he criticized Donovan McNabb's complaints that black quarterbacks are treated differently in the NFL than white ones. Now, after Vick has received hours of negative air-play, Young comes forward about him being a good guy. I'll be curious to hear if there's any backlash with these comments and due to that, if Young is somewhat forced to tone down his approach in front of the mic and camera. I hope not, as I'm a tad bored with the overly-cliche'd, politically correct approach that most athletes take. It's nice to hear honesty, regardless if we agree with it or not.
