Hayden Defends Wiretapping (Go Figure)

CIA Nominee General Dan Hayden defended the NSA Programs on Friday, stating that they're used to "preserve the security and the liberty of the American people."

So, let me get this straight. Let's say that I have a girlfriend or a wife. If I spy on her, wiretap her phone line, her e-mails, her cell phone calls, then this allows her more freedom and security? Okay, next time I get seriously involved with someone, I'll try this out and see how she reacts.

My hunch is, she'll go berserk (rightfully so) and say something along the lines of, "You psycho! What, are you following me to? Who are you?"

Then, I could rebut with, "But, Sugar Biscuit, I'm only doing this to protect your safety and your privacy."

She'd come back with, "My privacy? What privacy do I have? Huh? Listening in on my phone calls! Whether they're on the house or my cell line, that doesn't matter, does it? Then, reading my e-mails! Reading my instant messages! Oh yeah, I feel a whole different sense of privacy than I ever have before! I feel the privacy of someone whose been in jail! I'm out of here!"

Okay, so I won't be attempting that little experiment anytime soon. But, it illustrates how ridiculous it is to say that this is all for our security and liberty. Give me a break! That'd be like me telling teachers that we're going to start paying them all equally (the minimum), because they're so important to the lives of our children. Or, it'll now be required to force teenagers to drink six cans of beer and two shots of vodka everyday, because it'll lessen their chances of becoming alcoholics. Yeah, and my name is Uranus.

It's all about power and control. They don't care about our liberty. They want the scale to tilt heavily in favor of security, so that little to no liberty remains. Hopefully, there will enough Republicans and Democrats alike who are able to stand up to Hayden and the Bush Administration in regard to the NSA wiretapping.
