Newt's Comments On "Hannity and Colmes"
The following is from Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes' Show on September 1st. Newt Gingrich and Alan Colmes take up the majority of this conversation with guest co-host Rich Lowry chiming in at the very end:
COLMES: We were just talking about [House Democratic Leader] Nancy Pelosi [CA] and what she wants to do in this effort to perhaps get Rumsfeld removed. He recently made some very controversial comments, basically suggesting that critics of the Iraq war are tantamount to Hitler's appeasers. Do you agree with him on those comments?
GINGRICH: Essentially, sure. I mean, I think you've got to say that --
COLMES: You're calling appeasers people who disagree with the Bush policy administration --
GINGRICH: Look --
COLMES: -- comparing them to those who enabled Hitler?
GINGRICH: Yes.
COLMES: That's an astounding comment --
GINGRICH: What's your -- what's your -- why? Why is it astounding?
COLMES: -- that's a very insulting comment --
GINGRICH: It's not an insulting comment.
COLMES: -- to most of the American population, which doesn't agree with the Iraq war, for example.
GINGRICH: Look, look, no. First of all, the question is, if you have a North Korea with nuclear weapons threatening us, you have an Iran trying to get nuclear weapons threatening us. We've now found over 700 chemical warheads and weapons in Iraq, which supposedly had none, according to our friends on the left. You have a terrorist organization in Great Britain, a terrorist organization in Canada. My question, Alan, is, for the people who want us to cut and run in Iraq, and let's be clear --
COLMES: It's not cut and run. I don't agree with that.
GINGRICH: It's withdrawal. It's leave. It's accept defeat. I mean --
LOWRY: Yeah, that's exactly what it is.
One has to love Newt Gingrich. First off, that name - Newt. His folks must've known that the guy was going to be a winner. What'd they name their other kid? Sloth? Slug? Goober? The guy is also "out there." He makes conspiracy theorists who believe that we're all aliens look sane and credible.
The guy is seriously delusional. He still stands by that Weapons of Mass Destruction argument. The only weapons that were found were back from the first gulf war and no longer functional. If he then argues, "But, you see? There were weapons, so we obviously had a right to declare war to protect our people." Uh-huh. That'd be like me claiming that my ex-wife stole some bananas from me the night before and I therefore had the right to walk into her house and find the bananas, yet, low and behold, the only bananas there are old and can no longer be eaten. That meant she didn't take my bananas and I better get out of that house before she finds me.
He, along with several others, also see this as a baseball game which can either be won or lost, even though it's gone into extra innings with seemingly no end. So, it's either we defeat terrorism or are defeated by it. What these delusional nitwits don't see evidently is the fact that terrorism is not going to be defeated- before, now, or ever. Does that mean we should just quit and not try to keep terrorist activity to a minimum? No, but war is not going to keep terrorist activity to a minimum. It's only going to expand terrorists, their cells, and their movement.
Also, it's lovely that Newt and some others are standing by Rumsfeld's frightening comments. Yeah, okay, let's spread "freedom" and "democracy," protect the people at home and their "liberties," but for any who question the president, his policies, or the war, then you are just like those who enabled Hitler to rise. That'd be like a psychotic mother or father telling their child, "I love you and respect your life very much, but if you question me, I will kill you." That just creates a very warm and fuzzy feeling inside, doesn't it? With a name like Newt, I'm sure he creates that same feeling to many who associate with him or just read/hear the guy's name. Mr. Gingrich, I'll cut you a deal. You move to Pluto and we'll make sure that it's categorized as a planet and heck, we'll even name it after you- Planet Newt. It's pretty fitting I think.
