Why Oh Why?
Why is it that churches, church members, church leaders, and Christians, in general, are more apt to supporting war than the average person?
Take this past (continuing) war, for instance. Those involved with the church have been more prone to supporting President Bush, the war in Iraq, and the war on terror. Is it because he claims to be a Christian and has claimed that God has spoken to him in the past about what he needs to do? Do they actually believe that? If Bush told them that God said monkeys needed to be worshipped, would they all get down on their hands and knees and start to worship monkeys?
I don't understand it, because when I think Jesus, I think forgiveness, love, and peace. I don't think war. If Bush said, "You know, I spoke to Jesus today and he said we should bomb those punks!", would they believe him then? What if Bush is truly an Atheist? An Agnostic? A Satanist? What would they think then? Either way, I don't understand how they can be truly supportive of war for the simple fact that this man claims to be a Christian.
It makes me sad to know some people can't think for themselves. If you support the war for what you feel to be a legitimate reason, then hey, that's great. But, if someone only supports the war because they believe Bush to be a Christian and he claims to have spoken to God about these issues, then, well, I'm really sorry to hear that.
