"The Da Vinci Code"
I'm sick and tired of hearing about the complaints and protests by churches and religious leaders regarding the upcoming film "The Da Vinci Code." What's there to fear or worry about? It's a fictional film. Do they think that after "Shrek" came an obsession with Ogres, with several Ogre cults spreading throughout the United States? Did an army of the twelve monkeys show up shortly after "12 Monkeys" premiered in theaters? Was there a Keizer Soze following after "The Usual Suspects" premiered? No, no, and no again.
"The Da Vinci Code" novel by Dan Brown has been out how long now? Why's it such a big deal that it's transferred from book to film? For the simple fact that it's visual and many are visual lovers and learners? What is there truly to fear and be afraid of?
Some are going about this in a positive manner. They're using the film as a way to discuss and debate points of it in church. They use it as a thought-provoking tool. Personally, I think that's a great way to go about it. Why yell and insult a film that is going to open soon whether you like it or not? Why not use it as a tool to provoke discussion amongst you and your fellow peers, whether Christian or not?
Religion is so similar to politics on some levels. In times of war, if someone questions the government or opposes the war, then some will label them as traitors, treasonous, America haters, and Anti-American. If someone questions a religion or certain aspects of it, then they may be called blasphemous, radical, perverse, and Anti-Christian. Common theme? One must blindly follow their leader.
"The Da Vinci Code" is a best-selling book. Tom Hanks is the lead star in the film and it's directed by Ron Howard. With those three ingredients, it has all the makings of a solid move-going experience and one that pulls in a few bucks.
I find that those who don't have an answer fear a question. Those that feel comfortable in their answers don't fear the question. So, for those who don't fear the question, I support your using this film as a tool for discussion. For those who fear the question, I only ask you this, why do you believe what you believe, if there is no answer?
