A Confused Democrat
No, I'm not talking about me. I don't even really consider myself to be a Democrat. The word "liberal" is probably more fitting.
But, I was talking to a person yesterday who definitely considers himself to be a Democrat and am beginning to wonder.
I don't even care. If one is conservative, moderate, liberal, Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, whatever, that's fine. But, if someone says they're liberal and is conservative on almost every issue, then this confuses me.
This "Democrat" has been very critical of Bush and his administration, but when I think back in retrospect, I can only remember him laughing, rolling his eyes, and shaking his head. While I talked about why I was critical of Bush and his administration, he just kind of played the nod and smile game while claiming that he agreed. He is Jewish and his stance is very Pro-Israeli. He began talking about that and I kind of stated that I would just "Stay out of this (conversation)," because I could tell that he obviously was very biased and felt very strongly about what he said and that is just a time to let someone vent, as opposed to let tensions escalate and allow a heated argument to brew. Even though Joe Lieberman was arguably the most supportive of all Democrats to Bush and the Iraq War, this friend of mine told me how disappointed he was that Lieberman lost in the Primaries to Ned Lamont. I asked him why and he really didn't have a reason. Then, here's the kicker. Guess where he turns for all his news? No, not CNN. Nope, not MSNBC. Not C-SPAN or CNBC. Fox News. Yup, you heard (read) me right, Rupert Murdoch's Fox News. Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Oliver North. Fox News. This is when I butted in and had to ask one very simple question, "Why?" He told me that he knows a gal who words there and says "It's the best." This is when I started rolling my eyes, but for a different reason than he had before. Even a group of 5-year olds were polled recently and they claimed that Fox News was conservatively-biased. Okay, I kid on that part. But, of all the news stations, when one thinks conservative and Republican, they probably think Fox News. He better be ready. Next time we chat, I'll have for him a few stats and studies about Fox News. In fact, I may blog about that here in the near future. So Fox News, watch out, I'm about to dig for the facts!
