Happy New Year?

I hope everyone had a safe and fun night last night and hope all are recovering nicely today. I had a, well, interesting night, I guess you could say.

A friend of mine invited me to a party a friend of her's was having, so I said sure. When we got there, our moods drastically changed from upbeat and excited to "Is there something better we can go to?" This was no party. I'm not sure what it was. It felt like an after-work business gathering of sorts. Most the people there worked with one another. My friend and I were the only two that didn't work with them. So, what did they talk about non-stop? Work, work, and more work. The only time they diverted their attention away from work was the occasional movie quote. Besides that, it was a gossip session about work and people at work. I sat around and when movie quotes were brought up, then some more quotes immediately came to mind and I came forward with them. But, what were my friend and I to say in response to the talk regarding work and people at work? I even tried to get liquored up and buzzed to make the night a little more enjoyable, but even that didn't work (pun intended). Just being there was a buzz kill and no matter what I drank, whether it be puckers or vodka, I wasn't going to feel anything.

My friend wasn't having fun either. To be perfectly honest, I socialized quite a bit more than she did. She and her friend weren't able to talk much and she even decided to leave at 10:30, before the New Year started. I had no problem with that, so we left at 10:30, got back at 11:30ish, and I was kicked out at 12:15 or so.

It's weird. It didn't feel like New Year's Eve last night. It doesn't even feel like New Year's Day today. I don't know what it is. It being on a Sunday feels kind of weird, in and of itself. The lame party I went to last night didn't help matters any. My other friends didn't even go to any parties. Also, where are the college football bowl games? Never in my life (until now) have I not woken up on New Year's Day and not had college football to watch on the boob tube. No good parties, no buzz, no hangover, no football. There are NFL games on, so it just feels like a typical Sunday to me. So, Happy New Year everyone. But, when's it actually going to feel like a New Year?
