Bush on Immigration
With all the pressure coming from the conservatives, Bush is now planning to send down 6,000 National Guard troops to protect the border. Yet, he's trying to allow the opportunity to grant citizenship to the immigrants who are already here.
This is interesting, because, while conservatives will be content with Bush's plans on sending the 6,000 troops down, they won't be very content on his not wanting to send immigrants back to where they derived. So, I'm curious on how they'll respond overall. Will they cancel one another out or will the recent news about the troops being sent down help boost Bush's approval amongst conservatives? According to recent poll results, 52% of conservatives and 68% of Republicans approve of President Bush's job performance, both lows during his tenure. It'll be interesting to see if both those numbers either stop falling or move up slightly in the next few days.
Even though Republicans like to label Democrats as the flip-floppers, they're just as bad at flip-flopping. Bush has proven that with the Iraq War and the immigration issue, amongst many others. I'm sure with the recent drop in numbers amongst his base and foundation, he was either told or he decided to do something about that. With the '06 elections coming up in 5+ months, there's a great deal of pressure on Bush and his administration to at least satisfy the conservatives and Republicans enough to vote their way in November.
It may be too little too late for Bush. Rove has been indicted on charges of perjury and giving false information during the investigation. Cheney's name has been mentioned over the past couple days in the Plame case. Not everyone is satisfied with Bush's nomination of Dan Hayden for CIA director, replacing Porter Goss. Spokesman Scott McClellan was outed in favor of Tony Snow. There are so many potentially big stories breaking open in regard to the investigations and charges filed against members of the administration, your guess is as good as mine when it comes to what'll transpire between now and November. Bush is attempting to make slight changes in the administration and is attempting to satisfy his base and foundation of supporters with the suggestion of sending troops down to protect the border, but will it be too little too late? We shallst see. I'm thinking so, but do believe his poll numbers will steady back out in the next few days at around 30% to 36%.
