Braves Notes

I saw a first about a week or so ago. Atlanta Braves Center fielder Andruw Jones hit a home run to straight away center field while breaking his bat. No, he didn't break the bat over his knee like Bo Jackson used to do. The ball traveled over 400 feet after snapping the bat on contact.

Larry "Chipper" Jones had his first three home run game in his career last night, belting three out against the Washington Nationals in the Braves 10-4 victory.

Left fielder Matt Diaz tied a National League record with ten consecutive hits until he grounded out to the shortstop in his final at bat last night. No, that's not a typo. Before that at bat, he was 10 for his last 10.

Newly acquired closer Bob Wickman is 7 for 7 in save opportunities with an E.R.A. of 0.00. Why didn't we get this guy in the previous off-season?

Marcus Giles is batting lead-off again. Why?

Edgar Renteria is 0 for his last 15. Hopefully by me typing this, it'll unjinx him, if you will.

Chipper Jones is one home-run away from hitting the 350 milestone. After that, he'd need just one more to pass Chili Davis for third on the all-time home run list for switch hitters behind Eddie Murray and Mickey Mantle.

The Braves are 25-31 at home and 30-31 on the road for a 55-62 overall record.
