Some Announcers...

After watching a game, sometimes I wonder how certain announcers got their jobs. Last week, I watched the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots' pre-season game in Atlanta. Dick Enberg and Randy Cross were the announcers.

Enberg might just be getting old, but he seemed a minute too slow on a lot of plays, much like Keith Jackson did before he finally called it quits.

But, Cross made the dumbest statement of the night. Has anyone out there heard of Tom Brady? No, he's not on "The Brady Bunch." He's the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback of the New England Patriots. Yeah, so, he's alright. Adequate. Decent. Yes, I'm being sarcastic. Randy Cross compared his back-up Matt Cassell (yeah, who?) to Tom Brady time and time again. He didn't point out the obvious, such as the fact that they're both Caucasian males. No, he went a step further and stated how similar Cassell was to Brady as a player. Back-up Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers has never started an NFL game, but let's liken him to Super Bowl-winning quarterback and current starter Brett Favre.

Hey Randy. Matt Cassell is a back-up. That's what he's there for, to back-up Tom Brady. Cassell was a back-up even in college. He backed up Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. Now he's backing up Tom Brady. The only way he'll start is if he plays elsewhere or if Brady gets hurt. They're quarterbacks. Their jobs are the same. But, Matt Cassell is nothing like Tom Brady. Once Cassell shows the poise in playoff games and the Super Bowl that Brady has done, then we can start talking, but he hasn't done that and it'd be very surprising to me (as, he is a back-up) that he ever will. Tom Brady has been compared to Joe Montana and why? They both are cool under pressure in big games and both have Super Bowl rings to prove it. That's a good comparison. But, comparing a back-up quarterback to a three-time Super Bowl-winning starter? How'd you get that job again?
